When it comes to decorating your home, I like to think of it just as you would if you were getting dressed. Sure, you need to make sure your body is well taken care of, but slipping into that favorite pair of jeans can elevate your entire outlook from good to amazing. The same can be said for ‘dressing’ your home. Of course you want to make sure your sub systems are in perfect order, but the real fun comes in the form of an easily changed design element: textiles.
To be quite honest, I'm not a "Holiday Decorator," I don't change over my house for each new Holiday and I am not one for themes. I do, however, love a good update as the weather changes with my textiles! A pillow here, a throw there, maybe some new cozy (or lightweight) bedding. Like my outfits I like my base or foundation to be neutral and classic, but where the fun comes in is the accessories or in this case the textiles!
Adding throw pillows to a couch might be one of the easiest and quickest ways to add visual interest to your space, as well as freshen it up from season to season. Options are essentially limitless when it comes to color, shape, texture, etc. Some of my personal favorites come from Brookside-based home-décor haven, Golden & Pine, which is always rich in perfectly curated pillows.
The other go to area I love to freshen up is my bed and this season my go to is Blush Linen Duvet by Cultiver Goods and found at Golden and Pine. It is seriously the softest fabric, found in the most beautiful shade of creamy pink and the best part, the more wrinkles the better!
When it comes to sprucing up for the seasons, feel free to take inspiration from your closet! Shibori, Watercolors and light shades in the spring, juicy bursts of teal and pops of white in the summer, rich oxblood tones in the fall, and sumptuous velvets and faux-fur in the winter. If you are like me and not a huge holiday decorator but still like to change the vibe of your space, look no further than a fresh pillow collection or bedding to do the job.
Just like your personal attire, your home is a facet of you. I highly encourage you to view your home not only as your happiest safe haven, but also as yet another opportunity for self-expression and style. Changing your outlook from what looks ‘trendy’ to what patterns, colors, and textures inspire you will guarantee that your home absolutely radiates with joy and style.
