On Trend: Terracotta

These cold winter days already have me longing for more warmth in my space, and one of 2017's most exciting trends will do just that. Terracotta, both the color and in its natural state, have been popular in Europe for the past year, but we are now starting to see this trend evolve in the states.

Terracotta is a type of fired clay that invites a natural connection creating warmth and cozy in a space. With this element, color, texture, and how your pair it are important to the overall sophistication. So how do you do it?

Lets start with color pairings, this lifestyle styled shoot by Alessandra Salaris is a perfect use of the color. Creamy whites and a little slate gray help to balance out this mostly monochromatic look using various shades of the color. Also try pairing with slate blue, shades of white and rich greens.

Still loving an all white space, terracotta tiles could help add warmth by still giving you the illusion of neutral and natural. Whether in a kitchen as a back splash or floors, a mudroom or an outdoor space, tiles could add earthy texture and warmth.

I think what I'm most excited about with this trend is the lighting, whether a dramatic installation or a modern and minimal wall sconce you can't go wrong. Lighting, along with accessories (kitchen items, vases, wall art etc) are the easiest way to enter into this trend.
